Former Bruins goalie explains why he didn't fight Jordan Binnington

Jordan Binnington seemed to want to part ways with Linus Ullmark.

With just over five minutes left in the third period between the St. Louis Blues and the Ottawa Senators, A scrum broke out near Binnington's net. After attempting to break up a fight involving Brady Tkachuk, the Blues goalie ran to his bench and appeared to have challenged Ullmark to a fight.

The former Boston Bruins goalkeeper slowly walked toward center ice and then finally made his way to the Senators' bench.

Ullmark explained after the Senators' 8-1 win why he decided to turn down Binnington.

“It’s just game and we’re up 7-1 at this point. There is no need for me to go down there,” he told reporters. “He just stood up for his guys and also held back one of our best fighters. I'm pretty sure Brady can take care of himself.

“I would rather do nothing. When the time comes and I have to stand up for my teammates, I will,” Ullmark added. “But as I said, that wasn’t necessary today.”

Binnington did not speak to the media after Tuesday's loss.

Ullmark isn't known for fighting, but he wanted to during the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Bruins faced the Florida Panthers. The goalie removed his mask, glove and blocker as he attempted to pursue Matthew Tkachuk.
