“What has to prevail is that we were able to shape the game in many phases over 120 minutes against a team that is more likely to end up in the top third of the second division. That has to give you energy. But now we are very disappointed”said Dresden coach Thomas Stamm in the Sportschau interview. About the wild final phase with the equalizer deep in stoppage time, he said: “Everyone believed in it until the end.”

Poor first half in Dresden

The 31,000 fans in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium saw an extremely dull party in the first half. The only excitement came shortly before the half-time whistle. The Darmstadt team had a free kick and it landed at Fraser Hornby. Dresden's Robin Meißner directed his shot from nine meters onto the crossbar of his own goal.

The Darmstadt team was also annoyed with referee Tobias Stieler in the 18th minute. It didn't show up on the penalty spot when Hornby went down in the penalty area in a duel with Claudio Kammerknecht.

Darmstadt hits and misses Preliminary decision

After the break things went better for the “Lilien” from Darmstadt. At a corner, Vukotić rose highest and powerfully headed the ball into the goal. Shortly afterwards, the Serb almost made it 2-0 – again from a corner. But his shot landed just over the goal.

The goal was good for the game because Dresden suddenly played along and Darmstadt got space. That meant: There were chances on both sides.

Lemmer scores the equalizer

Isac Lidberg and Hornby missed the preliminary decision for Darmstadt and were denied by Dresden goalkeeper Tim Schreiber. But the Saxons score the goal. In the 85th minute, Oliver Batista-Meier hit a cross to Jakob Lemmer and he headed in to make it 1-1.

Both had been substituted on by Dresden coach Thomas Stamm shortly beforehand. Previously, referee Stieler had to interrupt the game because of pyrotechnics from the Dresden block.

Wild injury time

After the equalizer, things got wild. After a foul by Jonas Sterner on Lidberg, there was a penalty shortly before the end, which Tobias Kempe sank into the goal. But when Darmstadt's coach Florian Kohfeldt thought he was already one round ahead, Dynamo struck back again.

Again it was Lemmer who scored from a corner in the eleventh minute of added time and shook the stadium with a powerful shot into the corner. A dream goal in the last second of regular time.

Darmstadt was more confident in extra time

The second division team then had the upper hand in extra time. Philipp Förster was able to be decisively disrupted in the penalty area, but then the ball came to Lidberg, who put the ball into the goal from a 14-meter central position using the left inside post. The Dresden player then had nothing more to add to Darmstadt's third goal.

The round of 16 in the DFB Cup will take place on 3/4. Played in December. The draw will take place on Sunday from 7.25 p.m. in the Sportschau.
