East Ryegate man charged after incident involving U.S. Marshals in Vermont and New Hampshire

EAST RYEGATE, Vt. (WCAX) – A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against 36-year-old Douglas Reynolds on one count of possession of a firearm while unlawfully consuming a controlled substance and one count of possession of a firearm as a felon.

Reynolds is currently in the custody of the state of New Hampshire following a reported shooting in the Northeast Kingdom involving an alleged attack on a U.S. Marshal and a chase that began in New Hampshire and along Route 5 in Ryegate , Vermont, ended.

Now the new federal charges relate not to this most recent incident, but to one from early January this year, when he was arrested in Bradford on charges of drug possession, drunk driving and participating in a possible police chase.

Reynolds will be charged once he is taken into federal custody. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
